Mecca, officially Makkah al-Mukarramah, is the holiest city in Islam and the birthplace of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Located in the Hejazi region of western Saudi Arabia, Mecca is home to the Great Mosque of Mecca, known as the Masjid al-Haram, which houses the Kaaba, a cube-shaped building considered the direction of prayer for all Muslims worldwide.
